Where Foundations are Built & Futures Begin
St. Stephen’s Academy’s Lower School curriculum (Grades PreK-5th) is deeply anchored in the classical education model, a proven approach that has shaped great leaders and thinkers for over 2,500 years. Drawing from the rich legacy of the ancient world, our Classical curriculum is meticulously designed to cultivate young minds in a way that has historically fostered some of the most influential figures in Western civilization.
The Classical Trivium
In the Grammar stage, typically covering PreKindergarten through 5th grade, the focus is on building a strong foundation of knowledge. Students memorize facts, learn language rules, and absorb key concepts across subjects. It lays the groundwork for future learning, emphasizing memory, observation, and foundational skills.

The Logic stage, corresponding to middle school years, centers on teaching students how to think logically and critically. Students develop critical thinking skills, learn to analyze information and make connections between subjects. This stage fosters a deeper understanding of concepts and encourages questioning.
In the Rhetoric stage, typically covering high school years, the focus shifts to effective communication. Students learn to express their thoughts clearly and persuasively through oral and written communication. They become skilled in persuasive writing, public speaking, and eloquent presentation, preparing them for leadership roles and advanced studies.
