St. Stephen's Curriculum

PRE-GRAMMAR (K-2)

We harness our youngest students' natural curiosity and excitement about learning through singing, chanting, reciting, painting, and drama. By the end of this stage, students have a solid foundation in spelling, writing and reading, focusing on the basic rules and facts of each subject.

GRAMMAR (3-6)

Memorization comes naturally to children at this stage, and we capitalize on this by teaching songs, games, drills, drama, and chants that students can easily assimilate. We begin teaching Latin in the 3rd Grade, as it is a building block for the learning of many other subjects.

LOGIC (7-9)

The emphasis in these years is on reasoning skills; the study of formal Logic begins in 8th grade. Teaching to this stage taps into the student's curiosity and the desire to judge, debate, critique, and organize. We are excited to add 9th Grade this year and to implement a worldviews curriculum that integrates philosophy, theology, literature, music, art, history, and science.

RHETORIC (10-12)

As we expand to include these upper grades, students will learn how to express themselves clearly and persuasively. Through in-depth research projects; speeches and debates; drama; oral presentations; and worldview discussions and written papers, students will develop their abilities to construct and defend a thesis.
