HOW CAN I APPLY?

"When we came to Oregon from out of state, we had the option to move to any area within a reasonable drive from Portland. We chose to settle in Beaverton because of St. Stephen's Academy. The warm, caring atmosphere of the school, along with the academic strength and classical focus, were exactly what we wanted for our children."

Mrs. Vinny Chau-Chin - Music

BS Accouning/Marketing - University of Oregon
Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Music (K-12) and All Subjects (K-5) - Lewis and Clark College
Years of teaching experience:  12
Years at St. Stephen's:  3
Why I work at St. Stephen's:  I teach at St. Stephen's because the school fulfills an important mission that I believe in - to impart Christian teachings combined with academic knowledge to young learners.  Specifically, I teach at St. Stephen's because I wish to help young learners recognize the beauty and wonder of music through the eyes of God.
Philosophy of teaching:  My philosophy is to create life-long learners who will in their future years continue to care about music and to learn on their own more about music.  I wish for my students to know not only about music, but also to know how they can develop their own greater understanding of music.  As has been stated, "It is good to give a person a fish.  But, it is better to teach that person how to fish."
Hobbies:  other than music - spending time with my family, reading, travelling, soccer, swimming and kick boxing

Why I work at St. Stephen's:  St. Stephen's gives me an opportunity bring faith into art projects in a world where art and faith are not often matched.  I also enjoy spending my days with faculty and families with common goals.
Philosophy of teaching:  I love watching children learn and discover the world through accomplishments that will become part of their identity as they grow.
Hobbies:  volunteering at Portland Art Museum for 17 years, teaching special art classes and giving tours; crocheting, camping, and coffee with friends
